We spent the last few months nurturing a strategic relationship with an Open Source technology provider and its affiliated venture capitalist. Rather than simply jump on the community's mailing list and start slinging code like most, we tried to introduce ourselves into the community at the executive and strategic partner level. We wanted to contribute where we could do the most good.We rolled up our sleeves and started pitching in with both relevant consultative advice as well as working to nurture strategic agendas which would benefit both us and this technology community.
After doing all we could to support this relationship building effort, our prospective VC partner blew us off with the nanocorper's version of a 'Dear John' letter... "You are but two people, and you are running 1000 miles an hour in a few dozen directions.... I am not sure that anything you can say will make me comfortable in this arena."
It was seriously disheartening to have invested so much and have it fall apart so completely.
Our disappointment lasted about 3 minutes. We've learned over the years to 'just get over it and move on.' We believe in the Phoenix Effect.
Just as the mythical bird rose from the ashes to a new Life, so we have learned to take disappointment at the loss of partnering relationships as an opportunity for a New Beginning, to shed the blinders of what 'may have been' and to open ourselves to what 'will be'.
We always find a way to build a better tomorrow. We are nanocorpers, a new breed of entrepreneur. And like all entrepreneurs, we believe in ourselves and our business vision. Dear Johns just make us stronger, more determined.
