OCTOBER 12, 2000 [Revised 10/16/00]Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.) said Oct. 12 that he was hopeful the Senate would complete consideration of a stand- alone package of tax cuts by Oct. 19. Lott said that Senate Finance Committee Chairman William Roth (R- Del.) and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Bill Archer (R-Texas) met late Oct. 12 in an effort to work out the differences between the Senate and House versions of tax bills. Several tax cut proposals remain in play, including measures dealing with community renewal, replacement of the foreign sales corporation system, and retirement savings incentives. Lott said he continued to expect that small business tax cuts linked with a minimum wage increase would be attached to one ofthe three remaining appropriations bills.
